The Government of Uttar Pradesh has revised minimum wages across the state with effect from 1 April 2026. This change has come after recent labour issues in Noida and increasing cost of living, especially in urban areas.

If you are working in Uttar Pradesh, this update is important because it directly affects the minimum salary you should be receiving.

What is the change?

The government has increased minimum wages and also introduced a new system by dividing the state into three categories based on location and cost of living.

  • Category I: Noida (Gautam Buddha Nagar) and Ghaziabad
  • Category II: Cities with Nagar Nigam
  • Category III: All other districts

Wages are highest in Category I and lowest in Category III.

Who will get this benefit?

These minimum wages apply to:

  • Permanent employees
  • Contract workers
  • Daily wage workers

If you fall under any of these categories, your salary should not be below the amounts mentioned above.

What if your salary is lower?

If your current salary is less than the new minimum wage:

  • Your employer is required to increase it
  • The change is effective from 01 April 2026
  • If delayed, you are eligible for arrears

You can first speak with your HR or employer. If the issue is not resolved, you can approach the Labour Department.

Will wages change again?

Yes, there is a possibility.

The government has already indicated that rules under the Code on Wages are being prepared. Once those are implemented, a more structured wage system may be introduced.

For now, these revised wages are being given as an interim measure, but they are fully applicable and must be followed by employers.
