The Spread Over Calculator is designed to help employers and employees determine the total spread-over hours, actual work hours, and overtime based on work schedules for Factories and Shops & Establishments. The tool is aligned with applicable labour laws to ensure compliance.


Features

  1. Two Tabs for Different Scenarios:
    • Factory: Calculates spread-over and work hours based on the 10.5-hour legal limit.
    • Shop and Establishment: Calculates spread-over and work hours considering the 12-hour legal limit.
  2. Input Fields:
    • Start Work Time: Time when work begins.
    • End Work Time: Time when work ends.
    • Break Time: Duration of breaks in minutes.
  3. Results:
    • Spread Over: Total duration from start to end of work, including breaks.
    • Work Hours: Total duration of work, excluding breaks.
    • Overtime: Hours worked beyond the standard 8-hour limit.
  4. Warnings:
    • Alerts when the spread-over exceeds the permissible limit.

How to Use

1. Select the Tab

Choose between Factory or Shop and Establishment based on your workplace type.

  • Factory Tab: Use this for factory employees where the spread-over limit is 10.5 hours.
  • Shop and Establishment Tab: Use this for shops, offices, and establishments where the spread-over limit is 12 hours.

2. Input Required Data

  • Start Work Time:
    • Enter the time when work starts (e.g., 09:00 for 9:00 AM).
  • End Work Time:
    • Enter the time when work ends (e.g., 18:00 for 6:00 PM).
  • Break Time:
    • Enter the total duration of breaks in minutes (e.g., 60 for 1 hour).

3. Calculate

Click the Calculate button after filling in all fields. The calculator will process the input and display results.


4. View Results

The results include:

  • Spread Over: The total duration between start and end times.
  • Work Hours: Total time worked after deducting breaks.
  • Overtime: Hours worked beyond the standard 8-hour workday.

5. Check Warnings

  • If the spread-over exceeds the permissible limits (10.5 hours for factories or 12 hours for shops and establishments), a warning message will appear. Adjust the timings to comply with legal requirements.

Example

Factory

  • Start Time: 08:00 AM
  • End Time: 07:00 PM
  • Break Time: 60 minutes

Results:

  • Spread Over: 11.00 hours
  • Work Hours: 10.00 hours
  • Overtime: 2.00 hours
  • Warning: Exceeds the maximum spread-over limit for factories (10.5 hours).

Shop and Establishment

  • Start Time: 09:00 AM
  • End Time: 09:00 PM
  • Break Time: 90 minutes

Results:

  • Spread Over: 12.00 hours
  • Work Hours: 10.50 hours
  • Overtime: 2.50 hours
  • No Warning: Spread-over is within the permissible limit.

Tips for Compliance

  1. Ensure break durations are recorded accurately to avoid non-compliance.
  2. Adjust work hours to stay within the spread-over limits.
  3. Use the tool to identify and address potential overtime scenarios.

Troubleshooting

  1. Missing or Invalid Input:
    • Ensure all fields are filled correctly. Use the HH:MM format for time inputs.
  2. Incorrect Results:
    • Verify that the entered break time is realistic and correctly formatted.
  3. Warnings:
    • Review the warning message and adjust timings to align with legal requirements.
