How to Use the Calculator

Step 1: Enter Salary Details

  1. Locate the “Monthly Gross Salary” input field
  2. Enter the employee’s monthly gross salary in Indian Rupees (INR)
  3. The field accepts numbers only and automatically displays with the ₹ symbol

Step 2: Calculate Contributions

You can calculate the ESI contributions in two ways:

  • Click the “Calculate ESI Contributions” button
  • Press the Enter key after entering the salary

Step 3: View Results

The calculator will display three key pieces of information:

  • Employee Contribution (0.75% of gross salary)
  • Employer Contribution (3.25% of gross salary)
  • Total ESI Contribution (sum of both contributions)

Important Notes

Wage Ceiling

  • The maximum salary considered for ESI calculations is ₹21,000
  • If you enter a salary above ₹21,000, you’ll see an alert message
  • Contributions will be calculated based on ₹21,000 even if the entered salary is higher

Error Messages

The calculator will display error messages in the following situations:

  • When no salary is entered
  • When an invalid amount is entered (zero or negative values)
  • When non-numeric characters are entered

Tips for Accurate Calculations

  1. Enter the exact monthly gross salary without rounding
  2. Don’t include any commas or special characters in the salary amount
  3. Verify the entered amount before calculating
  4. Check both employee and employer contributions separately to ensure accuracy
