How to Use the Calculator
1. Enter the Transaction Amount
- Input Field: Locate the Amount (₹) field at the top of the calculator.
- Instructions:
- Type in the numeric value of your transaction.
- The tool accepts decimal values (e.g., 1234.56).
- Calculations are automatically updated as you type (with a short delay to improve performance).
2. Select the GST Rate
- Dropdown Menu: Find the GST Rate dropdown below the amount field.
- Instructions:
- Choose the applicable GST percentage for your transaction.
- Options include 0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% (with 18% pre-selected by default).
3. Choose the Tax Type
- Radio Buttons: Under the Tax Type section, select one of the following options:
- CGST + SGST: Splits the GST equally into Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST).
- IGST: Applies the entire GST amount as Integrated GST (IGST).
- UTGST + CGST: Divides the GST equally between Union Territory GST (UTGST) and CGST.
- Note: The tool dynamically shows the relevant breakdown section based on your selection.
4. Choose the Calculation Type
- Radio Buttons: In the Calculation Type section, decide how the GST should be applied:
- Tax Exclusive (Add GST):
- Use this option if the amount entered is before GST is applied.
- The calculator will compute and add the GST to show the final total.
- Tax Inclusive (Remove GST):
- Choose this if the amount entered already includes GST.
- The calculator will extract the GST to reveal the base amount and GST portion.

5. View Your Calculation Results
- Results Section: Once you provide the necessary inputs, the results are displayed in a clearly organized format:
- Base Amount: The transaction amount without GST.
- Tax Breakdown:
- For CGST + SGST, both CGST and SGST values are shown.
- For IGST, the entire GST amount is displayed.
- For UTGST + CGST, the respective values for UTGST and CGST are provided.
- Total Amount: The final amount after GST has been added (or removed, in the case of a tax-inclusive calculation).
6. Review Recent Calculations
- History Section: At the bottom of the calculator, a list titled Recent Calculations displays up to the last five calculations.
- Details Provided:
- Each history item includes the base amount, GST rate, detailed tax breakdown, and total amount.
- A timestamp is provided for each calculation, making it easy to track when they were performed.

- The calculator updates automatically as you type in the amount (thanks to a debouncing mechanism that waits briefly before recalculating), ensuring smooth performance.

How is the GST divided in the CGST + SGST and UTGST + CGST options?
In both cases, the total GST amount is divided equally between the two components.
What is the difference between “Tax Exclusive” and “Tax Inclusive”?
Tax Exclusive: The entered amount is the base value, and GST is added on top.
Tax Inclusive: The entered amount already includes GST; the calculator extracts the GST to show the underlying base amount.
Can I perform multiple calculations in one session?
Yes! Every time you perform a calculation (with an amount greater than zero), it is saved in the Recent Calculations history, allowing you to review your last five computations.
Can I use this calculator for international transactions?
No, this calculator is designed for Indian GST calculations only.
How do I clear the history?
The history is automatically limited to the last 5 calculations. Older entries are removed as new ones are added.
