Minimum Wages Revised in Central From October 2024
On 25 September 2024, Dr. Onkar Sharma, Chief Labour Commissioner (C) in New Delhi, issued an order announcing revised minimum wage rates for the Central region, effective from 01 October 2024. The updated Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) has been adjusted in response to the rise in the Average Consumer Price Index Number.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment revised the VDA rates for workers in sectors such as Agriculture, Mines, Construction, Loading and Unloading, Sweeping and Cleaning, Watch and Ward (both Armed and Unarmed), and Stone Mines. This adjustment reflects the increase in the Average Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers, which went up from 399.70 to 402.09 as of June 30, 2024 (Base 2016=100), marking a 2.40-point rise.
As a result, the revised VDA will be applicable from 01 October 2024, to 31 March 2025.
Employees Employed in Agriculture
The adjusted Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) for employees working in Agriculture, based on the increased Consumer Price Index (2.40 points), will be as follows starting from 01 October 2024:
